TECHSIGHT Project
at TONIK in the Faroe Islands! 🇫🇴
TECHSIGHT was pleased to participate in the TONIK Conference in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands - a highly valuable platform for engaging with Nordic and North Atlantic innovation actors operating at the intersection of deep tech, entrepreneurship, innovation, creativity, and future-oriented innovation ecosystem development.
Through targeted discussions, we explored concrete collaboration opportunities with Icelandic innovation actors, the innovation ecosystem in Faroe Islands, Northern Scandinavian business angel networks, and Danish quantum innovation actors.
These exchanges reinforced the growing importance of stronger cross-border collaboration between emerging and leading innovation ecosystems across Scandinavia, Europe and beyond!
A key takeaway from the dialogue is the strategic role that smaller nations and regional ecosystems can play as agile leaders in innovation, if the right mindset, policies and specialisation targets are well defined.
TONIK also provided valuable insights into:
• Funding pathways and investment readiness for deep tech startups.
• The role of angel investor networks in scaling innovation ecosystems.
• Open innovation approaches, including perspectives inspired by NASA Open Innovation practices.
• Future-oriented ecosystem building and regional innovation leadership.
• The strategic importance of quantum and advanced technologies for Europe’s future competitiveness.
For TECHSIGHT, these exchanges strongly align with our mission to strengthen future-thinking capacities, deep tech innovation ecosystems, and collaboration between higher education, industry, investors, and public actors across Europe.
We look forward to continuing the dialogue and transforming new connections into long-term collaboration opportunities across the Nordic, North Atlantic, and wider European innovation landscape:

TECHSIGHT Project at LOOP Forum in Copenhagen
At LOOP Forum 2026, one message stands out: circularity must be engineered into deep tech from the very beginning -not retrofitted later.
Through sessions such as “Conversations from 2050” and exchanges with leading circular economy experts, deep tech engineers, R&D managers and futurists, a clear direction emerged: future resource constraints, regulatory shifts, and technological breakthroughs must actively shape how we design today’s solutions.
ForTECHSIGHT Project, this is not theoretical, it is what we seek to implement in practice:
▪ embedding strategic foresight and horizon scanning into deep tech innovation processes
▪ aligning R&D and startup development with future circular value chains and resource realities
▪ supporting ecosystems to move towards circular-by-design technologies and systems
Circularity in deep tech means designing for:
– resource efficiency and regeneration
– lifecycle optimisation and reuse
– system-level impact beyond single solutions
This is how we ensure that innovation developed today remains viable, scalable, and sustainable tomorrow.

Interested in learning more about the TECHSIGHT Project?
Did you know that the TECHSIGHT Project has developed its own Strategic Foresight & Horizon Scanning Methodological Framework?
Co-led by Prof. Dr. Onurcan Sahin and Prof. Dr. Ertugrul Bayraktar, this framework was shaped over several months through an intensive process of discussions, co-design, and co-creation across the consortium.
What makes it especially valuable is that it was not developed only in theory. The methodology was tested and refined through multiple iterations with diverse stakeholder groups - from industry experts and academics to hundreds of students engaged through lectures and applied learning activities.
The result is a practical, analytical, step-by-step framework designed to help users better understand emerging change and identify weak signals in the deep tech space.

Getting closer to launching our deep tech innovation districts - hard work in practice

One of the many goals of TECHSIGHT is to empower universities to lead the development of their regional innovation ecosystems. By fully engaging partners across the quadruple helix - academia, industry, government, and society - TECHSIGHT is laying the foundation for upcoming deep tech innovation districts in Türkiye, Serbia, North Macedonia, Latvia, Germany, and Portugal.
We do this by drawing inspiration from Danish best practices in innovation ecosystem development and translating them into local and regional contexts across Europe.
The project focuses on building long-term, systemic frameworks, rather than isolated activities. Already in Phase 1, new strategic partnerships have been established, Memoranda of Understanding signed, and local Advisory Boards formed for the upcoming innovation districts.
Earlier this winter, MarjanNikolovski, Innovation Expert and Managing Director of the strategic innovation consultancy THENEWWAY- Danish project partner, had the honour of co-hosting a Macedonian National Innovation Delegation on a study tour to Denmark. The visit directly supported the future development of theDeepTech Innovation District Skopje, providing hands-on insights into how strong innovation ecosystems are built, governed, and sustained.
The delegation included, among others, Miss. Daniela Dimovska, Director of the newly established National Agency for Innovation, Scientific and Technological Development and Entrepreneurship (INOVA), Mr. Igor Nikoloski, Senior State Advisor for Entrepreneurship, Mr. Jumni Ademi, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy and Labour of North Macedonia, as well as other senior government representatives. During the visit, the delegation engaged with key Danish innovation ecosystem actors such as Digital Hub Denmark, Creative Denmark, BLOXHUB, and EIFO, and participated in major ecosystem events linked to the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU 2025, including the European SME Assembly and Scale-Up Europe (part of the Global Entrepreneurship Week Denmark).
TECHSIGHT continues to demonstrate how strategic foresight, international collaboration, and university-led ecosystems can accelerate Europe’s deep-tech future! 🚀 🚀 🚀

TECHSIGHT is a strategic foresight and innovation initiative aimed at positioning European Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) at the forefront of sustainable and inclusive deep tech development. Recognising HEIs as vital hubs within the “knowledge triangle integration” of universities, industry, and government/others, TECHSIGHT will enable future European leadership in the deep tech field.
TECHSIGHT will enhance HEIs’ innovation and entrepreneurship capacity-building activities by incorporating future thinking methodologies. This approach will utilise horizon scanning and strategic foresight to anticipate trends, enabling HEIs not only to respond effectively to industry needs but also to become future global leaders. This forward-thinking strategy will prepare HEIs to proactively address future technological shifts while creating an interconnected, sustainable deep tech ecosystem that drives growth and impact across Europe.
TECHSIGHT is a partnership between HEI's, SMEs, public agencies and several business associations among the partner countries Turkey, Denmark, North Macedonia, Serbia, Germany, Latvia and Portugal.
We are excited to be working on this initiative and we hope to create a scalable model for deep tech ecosystem development, positioning European HEIs as key drivers of global deep tech leadership!
